ITU makes a historic election for its next Secretary-General

Doreen Bogdan-Martin is the Secretary-General-elect of ITU, who aims “..to see an ITU that inspires, includes, and innovates”. She was recently elected on 30 September 2022 during their Plenipotentiary Conference 2022 in Bucharest and will become the first female to take the ITU leadership for more than 157 years. She also made history four years back when she was also the first woman elected to the ITU top management as the new director to the Telecommunications Development Bureau.

As she will take on her new role starting in Jan 2023 in the UN’s oldest specialized agency, she reiterates ITU’s role in bridging the digital divide and bringing internet connectivity and digital technology for everyone. She also emphasizes on bringing in more women and girls into the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and also to work for ITU.
